Clara watched Mirza jump onto the rooftops and chase the monster, Katie bolting after him. Her horse, Ranger, looked back at Clara and snorted, then galloped off without a moment's hesitation. Still grasping the throwing knives, she placed them in her coin pouch and pulled her crossbow out. Show time. Clara ran into the general direction the others ran off in, her crossbow catching glints of light.

The dark forest soon engulfed her. The familiar smell and feel of miles of nature and wonder embraced Clara, and as the brush and trees re scratched her sleeves she couldn't help but grin. The faint sound of hooves pounding on the damp earth was enough for Clara to know where they were going. The moonlight was blocked by the canopy of trees, only every few yards did it manage to break through.

Clara urged herself forward, until she came to a clearing with three rather familiar shapes that stood in the moonlit meadow. There was a rather odd shaped rock with greenery covering the mouth, and it had a musky and rather unpleasant smell wafting around it. Clara scrunched up her nose, showing her distaste. It explained why wildlife was clearly avoiding this area.

Approaching Katie, Mirza and Ranger, Clara took the chance to tie her hair back with a piece of leather, letting some of her hair fall casually to the side. Now closer to the rock, the smell was stronger and sent unsteady vibes through Clara. Any old chump could tell whatever monster was behind those vines was waiting. It was going to wait for them to make their first move.

Her mind wandered to her multiple strategies, and paused. The throwing knives, she thought with a satisfied smirk, pulling out the few she managed to grab before running into the darkness. The shone just as brightly as her blade would. "I have a plan," she whispered, flashing the small blades like a hand of cards. Clara pointed to Katie, and motioned to the top of the rock.

It was possible for her to use the trees to make it on the roof of the cave. "High ground is a good advantage," she noted, and turned to Mirza. Clara pointed to his sword and the tree line. "A surprise attack would do good," and Clara distributed her knives between both hands, hanging her crossbow on her back.

"I'll get this thing out first." Looking between the two with her wide, emerald eyes, she wondered if they'd agree, or go their own ways. It was still unnaturally silent, and event he sway of the trees didn't make a sound. Clara reached for a handful of vines, and tied them to a dead twig stuck in a crack. Even if they didn't want to do her plan, she'd still be the distraction.

"I'll get this thing out first." These were Clara's words.

Mirza placed his hand on his hip and loked at her. He smirked a bit and lifted a hand.

"I do enjoy the enthusiasm Clara, but I think its best we enter the cavern together. If there are traps or ambushes or whatever, we need to have eachother's backs. We wouldnt want you to end up dead while Katie and I have a party out here now would we?" He said.

Mirza had explored quite a few caves in his day. They were all desert caves, but a cave was a cave. Its what might be inside the cave that worried Mirza.

Katie stood back up placing her arm back and lettin the bow string go forward, without and arrow. Ranger snorted and shook his head. He walked over and nudged her. She looked back at him and smiled softly.
""I do enjoy the enthusiasm Clara, but I think its best we enter the cavern together. If there are traps or ambushes or whatever, we need to have eachother's backs. We wouldnt want you to end up dead while Katie and I have a party out here now would we?" Mirza had said. Katie shot him a look and crossed her arms then rolled her eyes.

The smell reached out and grabbed the stallions nose. He jerked his head up, his ears perked and his muscles tensing up. This 'thing ' was no animal but a evil creature. Ranger's eyes went wide and he side stepped.

" easy" Katie whispered as she started to walk over The whites of the stallions blue eyes where showing.  He flung pack his head rearing high. Almost making himself fall.

Katie reached for his reins
" ranger!" She screamed as the horse tried to turned but ended up falling. Katie ran over to him. He was fine, but in panic mode. He knew what this thing was, he looked at Katie.
~don't go katie~ his eyes showed her. knelt down to the horse. he sighed

"im gonna find this thing, it probably has Trevor" she took his huge head in her lap. he was breathing heavily. He knew but she didnt. He KNEW what is was. He looked at her and nickered, he then looked at Mirza, trying to tell him if she goes in keep her safe. he sighed, katie still rubbing his face. the horse was a brave one, but this 'thing' was dangerous, able to kill them all.

He lifted himself up. Katie stood up after him. her stomach stinging with pain for the recent wound.
"ow." she mumbled then pretended it didnt hurt

Clara expected that— but going in together was better than nothing. She looked back at the cave and bit her lip. A waft of the bitter, sickening smell that was lingering around the cave filled Clara's nose again. She blanched and looked away for a moment. It seemed like a risk, but she signed up; all of them did. Clara spared a glance at Mirza, and then at Katie. "Mmm," Clara placed the throwing knives away and brought out her silver knife. "What can I say? I'm getting paid for enthusiasm." Clara threw in a smirk just for kicks.

With a silent sigh, Clara waited until they were all ready. If the 'monster' was in that cave, there was a fifty fifty chance they'd get it, or they wouldn't. Clara squinted— the reality of the hunt was starting to get to her. There really wasn't any knowledge of what this thing was. All she hoped was for no casualties. Maybe this job wouldn't be very tedious after all.

Mirza took the first step. He hated it. Squish. Squish. Squish. Everything was wet and the smell only got worse. Mirza took a moment to adjust his head wrap. He made it into a mask, to help filter the foul cave air.

Water dripped from the ceiling, sending subtle echoes through the cave. Moss grew on every surface and the light faded as he slowly crept deeper into the cavern. His feet were soaked. In the desert sandals sufficed for all situations, but since he left he had seriously considered purchasing some boots.

About 50 feet in and it began to become difficult to see. Mirza drew Therafim and brought it close to his face. He whispered a command word and held the blade high. It lit up with a magical light. Mirza always enjoyed Therafim's light spell. It reminded him of the desert sun; days when he would sit on the palace balcony and just bask in the sun's heat. He thought of his dry clothes, all adorned with gold and sapphire. His sandals were of the highest make and fit like a glove. His current pair was saturated and did little to protect his feet. He could feel his toes wrinkling as he trudged through the wet soil of the cave.

Mirza eventually came to a dip. The cave met some crudely made stone stairs. They descended into darkness. Up until that point the cave had seemed natural, but these step were not a formation of nature. Mirza turned to see if Clara and Katie still followed. He held Therafim high above his head.

Katie took a second to let the pain dissolve away. She looked back at Ranger the forward. Mirza had already gone in... She hesitated, the smell didn't bother her nor did the dark but the thought of what was in there.

She stepped in the cave. Squish! Squish! Squish! She was glade to have her boots on. She dodged the hanging moss an continue towards Mirza. She saw a light in front of her... His sword glowed too?! She shook her head and then rolled her eyes chuckling a bit.

She reached Mirza and looked at him. Her pale blue eyes shined in the light. A soft smile crossed over her face
" what's a matter desert boy? Never been in a cave? " she said in a playfully tone then looked back waiting for Clara.

Re: Chapter One

Clara followed after Katie and Mirza, her face twisting into an expression of disgust at the smell that seemed to roll off the walls in waves. The discomfort continued once the three were engulfed in the darkness, a squishy, wet ground that sucked on Clara's boots. I don't even want to know what that is. She kept her crossbow close, a bolt loaded and ready to attack. It was getting darker the more they proceeded into the cave, and when there was a strange glow coming from Mirza's sword, Clara couldn't help the little bit of disbelief. Impressive.

The sword gleamed quite brightly, and it helped relaxed her. There were man made stone stairs that led deeper Into the cavern, and Clara glanced over at Katie, who seemed to be smirking at Mirza about something. Clara couldn't help but feel uneasy as she stared down at the lingering stairs. They seemed endless, and not to mention the smell seemed to be sourcing from whatever was down there. Clara spared the other two another glance before letting her gaze shift back to the stairs. She chanced the first step, the stone slightly slippery from the muck stuck to the ground of the cave.

Mirza's sword cast shadows that danced along the carved stones, and Clara's stomach churned. It didn't matter. They were here, and turning back was not an option. Slowly, Clara descended down a few more steps, exhaling. The smell was choking, but she kept her mouth shut and adjusted her grip on her crossbow. They could do this.

"What's a matter desert boy? Never been in a cave?" Katie joked.

Mirza gave her a cold look. "I have, I just hate being wet." He said through his filter.

Clara took the lead down the stairs. Therafim continued to light the area around them. The walls became less natural as they descended, forming more into stone bricks than carved rock. The wet muck had vanished, but the slimy stone that replaced it did not fare much better for Mirza's Sandals. A few times he could feel his footing in question. Fighting on such a surface would be disastrous for him. The stairs eventually ended and before them stood a large wood door with metal hinges and knobs. There were unlit torches on either side of the door. The wood looked weathered and aged. It had definitely suffered from water damage in its time, which Mirza guessed was a very long time. There was a large symbol etched into the floor beneath where Mirza stood. It was like some sort of insect in the center of two rotating vines.

Mirza approached the door. Upon closer inspection it revealed three skull carvings in the metal that held the knobs in place. Mirza reached out and touched the door. A deathly chill ran up his spine. Mirza was not sure of what lay beyond the gateway he was touching, but what ever it was it could not be good.

Mirza could only think of one other place that had a similar feeling to it. Back in the Basil mountains lay the lair of the Hassansins. Mirza had visited it a few times in his past and each time he had this grim feeling rush through him. It was a fortress of death. The dark arts flourished among the ranks of the Hassansins as nothing was forbidden to them. They were spies and killers. They trained away from the city to keep their dark secrets away from the public. The Hassansins were allowed to practice whatever they deemed fit in order to accomplish their missions and were funded by the Sultan himself.

Mirza took his hand from he door and turned to face his companions. The Dark Arts. Necromancy. Blood Magic. he thought. This was a place that wreaked of it. This mission suddenly became much more than a common kidnapper.

The cold look Mirza gave Katie shocked her. Embarrassment filled her. Her cheeks flushed pink and she looked down and her black hair covered her face she slightly looked at Clara and mouthed
"Opps..."

The sword's light darted to fade and Katie looked up to see Mirza moving. She quickly caught up and stood closely next to him. She looked around and felt the squishy ground turn into slick rock.
" Clara be careful" she called back to the girl, her voice had a bit of concern in it. She looked around at the walls... Water dripped from the ceiling...
" what is this place?"

She stopped at the sight of the door. Her eyes narrowed as she saw the skull carvings. Mirza had touched the door then turned around facing them. Katie looked at him,  her eyes where a darker light blue. She squeezed past him, trying her hardest not to touch him. She looked at the door  then took in a breath. Her eyes lite up as she exhaled.
" smells like wet dog?" She put her ear to the door an heard a very faint sound.... Crunching? Or screaming?

The stairs led down to a foul smelling chamber, and Clara wanted very badly to cough, or smell fresh air again. There was a rather chilling carving beneath her feet, and the green eyes studied it intensely. She'd never seen anything so dark in the Guild before. It didn't help that there was a door, with three very distinctive skull carvings. So, were they smelling the rot of bodies? It would only make sense. Based on Mirza's expression, this wasn't just some den. It was past a silly, blood lusted animal. Clara had never seen stones carved so perfectly, or rotted wood with unsettling carvings. She shifted.

Clara watched Katie push forward to listen to the door, and speak up. Wet Dog? So, was this were everyone had been taken? Despite the fact that Carver had been ordered to take her down, her stomach churned at the thought of something ever happening to him. Especially like this. She wanted to hate him for taking the King's Army's side, but he'd been her makeshift father for years. As much as she tried, she could never hate him. Another shiver rippled through her spine, and she shifted from one foot to another. "It's probably just past this door," Clara croaked, her voice as low as she could make it. The smell was insufferable.

So, was this the end of the road already? Did they just kill this thing and retrieve their reward from Tuvera? Even then, didn't the wizard ask for a month of their time afterwards? Clara ignored the small voice in the back of her head that started to list off all the things to go wrong. She really rather stay positive for this one. Taking a step towards the other two, she waited for one of them to open the door. Maybe if Mirza could lower the intensity of his sword's light, they could try to sneak up on this thing, whatever it was. She had her crossbow, and I'd that somehow got launched somewhere (for the third time,) then she had her knife. She nodded once, as if she were signaling her readiness. She doubted anyone was waiting on her. Clara was twitchy, but determined to go in there. She could see the carvings clearer now, and up close they were sinister and cold. Could it truly be dark magic? Everything matched up. Who just had a liar that reeked of death and disparity?

Katie and Clara had caught up with him. Mirza looked at them, his grim expression faded. They both appeared to be uneasy about the their current setting. Mirza took a deep breath and turned to face the door. He held Therafim tightly and gripped the door knob. He pushed forward.

The door was exceptionally heavy. Perhaps the large amouont of water weighed it down or maybe it was just that heavy. Either way Mirza had to struggle to push the door open. As the door flew open he could hear groans and cries. Before him lie a large burial chamber. The walls were ligned with dug out beds, each of which had a rotting body within it and pillars of stone held the ceiling up. The torrches on the pillars all had torches upon them; all of which were lit and burning with a menacing green flame.

Six of the bodies cried out and scooted their way from their beds. They moved slowly as they wearily pulled themselves to their feet. Their faces were lifeless and their bodies were actively decaying. Mirza had only heard stories of the undead and the stories did not strike fear in him. The reality of what walked before him however, was something that would surely drive a weaker man mad with fear. Mirza began to dread his decision to help this town, as clearly this was a task for a crusader or paladin; someone with experience, and more importantly a stomach, to deal with such monstrosities. He shook as he readied Therafim, unsure what stance to take against what was rumored to be an opponent that felt no pain.

Their moans were that of extreme anguish and they lurched forward towards Mirza and his companions. Mirza maintained his defensive stance and took shakey steps bakwards as he did.

Katie stood on her tip toes and placed her hands on Mirza's shoulders. She could barely see over him. Her eyes lite up, brighter then the stars. Zombies! She smiled behind the man's shoulder.

Zombies where easy to kill and ansolutly amusing in a way. Katie would climb trees and watch the monsters run around the trees and run into each other.
Katie felt Mirza go nervous.
" hey," she whispered in his ear, gently rubbing his shoulder for comfort.
" cut their heads off"

She let go of him and grabbed her bow. She looked at him then to Clara, her eyes where filled with exititment
" Clara shoot their heads." She giggled. She loves it when she shot their heads. Zombies would run around like a chicken with its head gone ten fall to the ground and explode. It was really funny to her. She squeezed past Mirza... She giggled a bit then got into the room. She studied them for a second then drew her bow. She pulled back her string and added an arrow.
She let go of her string, it gently slide from her fingers and her black arrow flew slicing the air.....
" bulls eye.." She smiled to herself...

Re: Chapter One

Post by Metallicar on Mon May 12, 2014 3:05 pm

Once Mirza finally decided to open the door, Clara watched a little breathlessly as the obviously very heavy door was forced open. Behind that door was what made Clara's blood turn cold and her stomach wretch. There was rows of them— undead, blank stares. She was rewarded with the hungry stare of white eyes and slack jaws. The undead were the most famous of creatures from the underworld, and would crawl out from cursed graves and the dark corners of the forest. These specific ones had been locked deep in here for decades, maybe half a century. The flesh was rotted, some didn't even have skin left to show— and it hung from their arms and necks like shredded rags.

Their figures were mangled and curved, and the hair—if they had any— were strings, like the fibers of a spider web. That's not what nearly made Clara's heart stop, but the sheer amount of piled bodies that were withheld in the room was probably more than she'd ever heard of. Most tall tales consisted of five at most.. But this was a horde. This was not a coincidence, and neither were the skulls carved so delicately into the front of the door. These undead bodies were guarding something. Someone, possibly. Whoever had locked these poor souls away clearly had something to hide. Why would they hide themselves? Clearly if a horde of twenty monsters was the first challenge; what else was awaiting them? How many fallen paladins or adventurers were they to come across?

Clara let the trapped air out with a shaky exhale, before raising her crossbow. She watched Katie waltz into the room, and if Clara didn't have several pairs of white, empty eyes focused on her she might've gaped. The thieves guild had many stories and theories on how to kill these creatures, and the one Katie had so cheerily called out was the most common. Clara was willing to take that chance. There was probably a lot more science behind the reason why the brain was the key to the undead's death, but now was not the time to review her knowledge. Clara aimed, making sure Mirza did not step before the crossfire and shot, sending the small bolt dead between the eyes. Years of training had definitely paid off.

The moans and groans were the worst part. Clara believed it was the noises of the trapped, who could not rest in peace, and had to live until the gruesome fate the three of them had to deliver. They seemed rickety and boneless as they shuffled, arms outstretched. The majority of the horde was gaining interest in the archer that had so willingly approached, but if Katie could defend herself, Clara would not interfere, unless danger of course. This whole mission was turning into quite the lethal objective, and Clara continued to unload her bolts, slowly and as accurately into the heads of the tormented. She wasn't sure what to feel; if it should be relief to bring peace, or grief that these men and women had suffered for so long.

They had to push forward. Clara could see the shock on the male companion, and she was sure they didn't have these back in the desert. Maybe in the tombs. Did they have those? Clara decided that didn't matter at that particular moment, and gave Mirza a fleeting glance. Even though the undead have been a part of this forest for centuries, Clara had never run into them. She could have easily been taken down by a couple as a child— but then, a lot of things could've swept her away back in those days of skipping through the forests and scoring kills. She was naive, but after hearing the hardened stories from several bandits and assassins, Clara expected one day she would have stories of her own. Clara recovered what steps Mirza had backtracked, stationing herself by the rotted doorframe and continuing to shoot. Gathering all the bolts would be a chore, but obviously that was not as big of an issue.

If the smell was bad before, it was worse now. The beds were cloaked with the ashes of disintegrated clothes and pieces of fallen flesh. Eyes dangled from sockets and ligaments were worn like jewelry. It was sickening, and matched the smell perfectly. Clara didn't feel like a young assassin that accepted a very vague job from a very eccentric wizard in that moment— just a girl with a crossbow and a crowd of tormented souls to ward off. If they truly were a half century old, it had to be the best of the best kind of dark magic, the type Clara couldn't even begin to recognize. It was anonymous, it was strong, and it was exactly the thing to ward off the unprepared. This very scene would haunt Clara, and as intriguing as the creatures were, it was still not something to smile about.

Re: Chapter One

Post by Mirza on Tue May 13, 2014 11:14 am

Crossbow bolts and arrows flew. There was little hesitation from Clara and Katie. Mirza felt slightly embarrassed about his initial reaction, but he had left his Siyah with Anta. Mirza enjoyed his short bow, but it was uncomfortable to carry. The string threatened to choke him and the quiver straps rubbed inconveniently against his skin. Wearing thicker clothing was absolutely not an option. Mirza certainly preferred his loose desert garb. It was light, non-invasive and felt great on his body. That coupled with Therafim at his side meant he never felt too hot or too cold no matter what he wore. It is for this reason that Mirza generally left his Siyah with that stubborn camel.

Mirza pulled himself back to reality as one of the undead found its way into striking range. Mirza watched as it made a swing at him. It was slow and sloppy. Mirza side stepped with ease and thrust Therafim through its breast. The creature moaned slightly, but seemed otherwise unharmed. The monster brought its second arm around to grab Mirza by his neck. Mirza deflected the blow with his gauntlet. He placed his foot on the thing's abdomen and pushed it off his blade. It staggered back, but immediately resumed its persuit.

Katie had shouted something about their heads during her surprisingly enthusiastic first strike. He took a quick glance at the creatures that had fallen thus far and noticed that they all had their heads pierced with arrows and bolts.

Mirza waited for it to strike once again. He dodged in much the same manner as before, but this time Mirza made a wide strike at the monster's neck. Therafim connected and tore easily through the thin rotting flesh. Its head flew clean off and the body dropped to the wet stone.

The fear of these undead quickly left Mirza as two more shamblers fell to Therafim. The blade cut much eassier through the dead tissue than it did through anything he had fought before. He dodged and slashed. Mirza moved and danced. He could almost ignore the the smell as he cut through the undead. It would have been a blood bath on any other occasion if not for the lack of red running blood in the monsters.

Katie watched the zombie fall down I front of her, a groan came from behind and she ripped the arrow out of the undead monster in front of her and turned around and stabbed it threw the one behind her. She giggled as it dropped... Then something caught her eye... A hall way?

She looked at the others who where slaughtering the monsters. She then looked back at the hall, something seems to be calling her... A familiar voice... The cave was dark and the sides had black slate... She again looked at the others..

Katie siged and quietly slipped into the blackness, her steps silent as she walked threw the halls, a new smell came... Blood! Fresh blood... Katie hearts stoppe as he hear a scream.
" ALEX!" Her scream echoed the black walls. Liquid dropped from the ceiling. It was warm and sticky. Katie started to run, the ground no longer rock but mud and dirt. She screamed for Alex again. Then... No ground, Katie fell into a hole, the ground found her quickly. She gasped and rolled over and looked up....

A long drop it was . The girl looked over to see bodies impaled on huge spikes and she was just a lucky girl that she wasn't speared...

the bodies hit the floor steadily; the sick moans and slack jaws falling one by one. Clara could feel herself relaxing after each skull was pierced or severed. She went ahead and collected every bolt she could find, slicing at an undead that had been hidden from all of their weapons. With most of of bolts back in her possession, the sound of Katie screaming had Clara on alert. Where had she gone? The name Alex bounced on the stone walls and echoed emptily, and Clara searched rapidly for the source. She locked eyes with a dark hallway— so dark you could almost miss it. It was the only opening that Katie might've disappeared into.

The young assassin pulled out the last bolt harshly, before loading the flesh ridden bolt into her crossbow. Clara made her way towards the opening— waiting for Mirza. It was dark, like it had been on the stairs. Of Katie had ran this way, why didn't she wait? Clara frowned as she looked into the darkness, crossbow locked and loaded. She could not hear the odd archer girl anymore; no footsteps, and that's what worried Clara. Had Katie managed to kill herself? It could be very possible. It felt like they walked straight into a labyrinth, and whatever they were after was right in the center.

Re: Chapter One

Post by Mirza on Wed May 14, 2014 1:06 pm

Mirza lost himself in the combat. The situation had turned from grim to thrilling. He freed his mind of his surroundings. His wet feet, the horrid smell and the haunting green light. All forgotten. The only thing on Mirza's mind was the arc of his swing and placement of his feet. He twirled Therafim from one hand to the other slicing through foe after foe. Mirza did feel slightly bad that the creatures were unarmed, but Mirza figured that were they able to weild a weapon, the results would largely be the same.

As the last body fell and the last bolt made contact with undead face Mirza cocked his head back and laughed.

"Is that the best you've got?" he said shaking a fist in no particular direction.

Mirza looked over his shoulder to Clara who had been waited a second for him next to a dark corridor. Mirza was tired of dark halls and eerie lights. He had yet to dismiss his light spell on Therafim, which still glowed like the desert sun. Mirza approached the entry way to the dark hall and waved Therafim to get an idea of what was down it. Mirza looked to Clara, who was rather close to him. She was shorter up close and out of combat. He smiled at her and waved his free hand towards the hall.

"Ladies first."

Re: Chapter One

Pain caught up with quickly. She didn't land on one but she landed on a rock and that still hurt. Katie gasped as she felt the pain. She shut her eyes quickly an bit her lip. She shook her head, not even trying to move. She opened her watery eyes again. It's was dark... The spikes had black liquid sliding down them.

The walls where slick and impossible to climb. She could see a faded light above.. Up the 30ft walls. Katie rolled back over onto her stomach and put her hands under her. She pushed up and remained on her knees. She looked around the blackness.
" lovely Katie.." Her eyes searched the walls for an opening.  A growl quickly came and the girl turned around... Her eyes narrowed and a shape appeared.

" Katie?"  A voice reached out.  Katie gasped. A blonde haired man, at least 25 walked out  of the shadows holding a torch..  The girl felt her heart crack.. He hasn't aged
" Trevor?"  She hesitated. The man smiled and held his arms
" oh Katie look at you!" He waited for her to come to him.

Katie wanted to run to him, hug him, cry in his arms but instead she slowly stood up and glared at him, she stood like stone.
" where have you been??" She narrowed her eyes.
" Katie..." He started,  he walked towards her.
" NO! No no no no no no" she shook her head wildly. He grabbed her arm tightly.
" no! You left me! You left me like everyone else does!"
She screamed at him.

He shook his head,  and tighten his grip.
" I didn't leave you!"  He growled.
" yes you did!!" She tried to pull away. His gripped tightens and his green eyes turned yellow. Katie pushed him away and stumbled back. Katie saw him drop the torch he stumbled back and yelled. His skin...
" oh god!" Katie stood, horrified. His skin started to melt off, blood and flesh fallin, his bones cracked and changed.

His jaws starched out and fur covered him. He flipped back his head and let out a howled, shaking the room. He looked at her and stepped forward,  he growled and clawed at her. Katie looked around, then back at... Trevor.. She ran and hide behind a spike she gasped as the light went out.
She could hear his steps grow louder... A swipe came, cutting the air. Katie ducked and ran further back until the wall came and stopped her. She looked back listening to spikes break. She reached back for her bow....nothing was there...

Clara glanced over her shoulder as the light of Mirza's sword began to cast shadows down the dark hall. This one also seemed muddy and rotten, but there were no indications of Katie's position. Hesitantly, she took a step forward— eyes shifting constantly. Her hands grasped the crossbow desperately, taking silent breaths. Anything could be down this hall. It was another part of this elusive maze, with more things ready to kill them. There was a loud thud, and the sound of wood splintering. Clara frowned, picking up her pace.

After a few more steps the light shined down on a large gaping hole that stretched quite far down. There was a growl, and Clara could only make out shadows and faint figures. It was easy to distinguish who was who, since the largest figure looked unhuman even from thirty feet upwards. Still, Clara raised her crossbow and stared down the sights, waiting for her eyesight to adjust. She didn't have much time anyways; the beast was advancing towards their companion quickly, slamming into every large spike in his vicinity. It made it somewhat safer to land if they had to, and after a moment— Clara pulled the trigger. There was a roar. Clara lowered her weapon slightly, only to be locking eyes with a pair of cold yellow ones that reflected the light that came from the sword. A chill ran down her spine as those eyes bored into her head, and she could see the faint outline of the arrow in the creatures shoulder. Damn.

Re: Chapter One

Post by Mirza on Wed May 28, 2014 4:49 pm

Mirza watched as some sort of hairy, snarling beast leaped and began scaling a deep hole that Mirza now found himself staring down. He stood with Clara who had released a bolt into the beast. It was blindingly fast and Mirza could only pull Clara back to avoid the beast ladning on the two of them. Mirza felt Clara's body fall with him as he pulled hard on her cloak. Two bodies hit the ground, landing on their backs and before them stood a snarling yellow eyed wolf beast.

Mirza had never seen anything like it. It was unlike the undead in the sense that it seemed very much alive and had an aura of fear about it. It roared loudly stretching both its arms to either side and throwing its head back. Mirza scrambled to his feet, one hand gripping Therafim tightly and the other still wrapped in Clara's cloak. The beast lashed out with knife-like claws. The blow was swift and Mirza could only whip Clara further away from the creature as its claw came around and cut him in his sword arm.

Three crimson ravines formed following the creature's claws. Mirza cried out in pain and released Clara. As he did so a second swing moved through the air horizontally. Mirza ducked avoiding what would surely have been a fatal blow. Mirza jumped back, making a slight gash in the beast with Therafim as he retreated. He could see blood and fur fly from the beasts body. It growled loudly as it covered its newest wound with one claw. Mirza took special care to ensure he remained between Clara and the beast.

The creature quickly recovered from its last wound and looked to Mirza with deadly intent. It began walking towards him, taking each step ever so slowly. Fear began to sink in and Mirza had to dig deep within himself to stand his ground.

Katie stared at the creature...this was trevor... and he was gonna kill her... she closed her eyes.
A roar broke the silence that filled her ears. Blood and fur splattered on her face, the sticky substance clung to her. Katie opened her eyes as she saw the animal turn and run towards the wall and then jumped onto the wall!
thats impossible! she stared as the werewolf ran up the slick, flat walls.

she saw lights flicker and then heard a yell! Mirza!! katie looked around in panic. She got on her knees and searched the freezing stone floor for her bow.

"Please!" she whimpered to herself. her hands patted around till she felt a familar feelin. the slick feelin of her bow, a smile whipped on her face. she patted around a little more till she found two arrows. she quickly got up and stood.
"TREVOR!!" she narrowed her eyes. she could see the figure stop and peer over ledge. his eyes green... for a moment.

"im sorry..." her eyes water, she then grabbed her arrow and pulled it back and shot. her black arrow sliced threw the air, she watched the green eyes go yellow and the werewolf stumbled backwards. the arrow had gone into his shoulder, and it was clear that it was dislocated. Tears started to stream as she loaded her bow again...

Re: Chapter One

Clara yelped in surprise when the beast began to climb the wall, and was equally surprised to feel herself being pulled down by Mirza. It all happened very quickly, and it only took seconds for she and her companion to be face to face with one of the most terrifying things she'd ever laid eyes on. The undead could not compare. Clara was frozen for a moment, eyes latching into the yellow ones. She couldn't even react in time when Mirza was pulling and throwing her out of the way. She appreciated the courtesy, but there was no way she was just going to get one bolt in this thing. It had already managed to hurt Mirza, and who knows what Katie was dealing with.

The crossbow would only be tricky, and it was more probable she'd shoot the wrong thing if she tried. Slinging the firearm over her back, Clara's fingers wrapped around the dark oak handle of her silver knife and yanked it out. She couldn't get past Mirza, and he sliced at the creature with his sword. The best cried out, more so roared, but that wasn't the point. It was loud. There was a yell from the hole, causing the creature to stop and peer down. This was her chance. She could finally help. Clara pushed past the stock-still companion who had saved her multiple times in just a span of a few seconds and lodged her silver blade just below the heart.

It didn't stab anything important, but Clara retracted just as quickly— the silver blade causing the flesh to sizzle and blister. The best whipped around, flinging the young assassin to the stone wall roughly six feet away. Why did the blade do that? There were always myths about silver being susceptible to certain underworld creatures, but it was never a for sure thing. Clara could feel white pain erupting from her back, and the tail of her skull. She'd hit that stone hard, and it was stunning. If she'd been more accurate, whatever this was would've been dead. She watched with half lidded eyes as the hairy beast yowled and scratched for the wound on it's back, clearly still suffering from the burning. If one of the others got it now, they could be done. They needed to get this done.

She could deal with a headache, and a sore spine. Later. Trying to speak came out as a cracked grumble of words. She had enough strength to toss her silver blade Mirza's way. She had no idea how intense his sword was, but he was injured and her blade clearly had effect. Someone ought to use it. Clara had to get up. She knew she could. Despite the pain, everything felt right. It was a disorienting feeling, and it was a bit hard to focus, but she could get up again.

The monster stalled. It went back to peer into the hole to which it had come out of. Mirza meant to move, but he could feel his wound burn with pain. He clutched it close. It was as though he had been cut with Therafim itself. The pain was excruciating.

In Mirza's moment of pain Clara moved around him and shoved her dagger into the beasts chest. It reacted more to her dagger than to Therafim. Was her dagger magic?

Mirza watched in horror as the monster retaliated and threw Clara into the wall. Mirza let out a cry as her head hit the wall. She looked dazed and her emerald eyes appeared shaken. She tossed her dagger to Mirza. Mirza managed to catch the dagger just before it hit the ground.

He held it before him. It was fine silver. The creature's blood seemed to boil on its edge. He looked up to the beast which had turned its attention to Clara.

"Katie!" He yelled "Get out of there!"

Mirza then took a deep breath and swallowed his pain for a moment. He bull rushed the wolf beast, carefully placing Clara's dagger in his free hand. He met the creature. Fur and muscle. It was heavy, but the momentum of Mirza's charge was enough to throw the monster off its feet. Mirza pushed hard on the hilt of the dagger. He could feel the muscle tear as it pierced wolf skin. Mirza continued his push and eventually the beast found its way to the edge of the hole.

The monster screamed in pain and reached out to grab the walls. It was trying to stop Mirza's push. It was succeeding. Mirza yelled as his muscles tensed. He thrust Therafim into the creature next. It roared ever louder and lost its bearings. Mirza, now with both blades in the creature's chest jumped into the air , hands still gripping the weapons tightly. In one swift, dexterous maneuver he placed both feet on the monster and kicked them forward. As he did so the beast fell back into the hole and Mirza fell to the ground. His back met wet ground and Mirza could feel the wind knocked out of him.

He looked to Clara with grimace in his face. He grunted then smiled. As he stared at her he could hear the loud sound of spikes tearing through flesh. Nothing could live through that.

"Katie get out of there!" mirza's voice echoed. katie  narrowed her eyes then closed them rubbing her temples.
"Oh yes im magically gonna turn into a spider and climb up these-"

THUMP! The beast's body landed in front of the girl. It thrashed around until his yellow eyes spotted Katie...he whimpered as his body shaped into human. Katie nearly jumped out of her skin she then spotted his eyes turning green she then stood in shock as she watched blood pumped out of his mouth. The anger that she had bottled up for him seemed to explode and she felt her heart crack. Katie pushed off the wall and ran over then knelt by him taking his head in her soft hands.

"Trevor..." her eyes watered as he lifted his bloody hand to her face and touched her cheek.
"Im so sorry katie..." he gasped. Katie sniffled and looked at his wounds..... they where fatal, not even magic could help him.
"oh god..." she gasped then she looked back at Trevor... he coughed and blood splattered on her. Trevor started to wheeze and his breath started to go.
"Severa...." he let out a sigh

"No! NO!! Dont leave me again!" she cried. she had her hands on his cheeks and was staring into his eyes... they where starting to close.
"no no no no..." she started at him in horror as his breathing stopped.

"Trevor?NO  TREVOR!!.....please" She shook her head and then placed her head onto his chest.
"I need you!" she screamed... she hesitated a bit then kissed his forehead... tears where racing down her face.
"i love you...."

Trevor was her family, her father in a way but now he was gone, no one to talk to... just her and Ranger.... Ranger?... Ranger! Katie look up trying to gather herself. these slick walls where 30 ft and ranger has 35ft of rope tied to his saddle..

"Ranger!!" she screamed. Ranger lifted his head and snorted as a sound echoed from the cave.

Clara watches as the scene unfolds before her. Mirza takes the beast down, sending it to its imminent death in the pit thirty feet below. With or without the spikes, it would've been very unlikely for the creature to survive such a thing. The beast let out wails of pain, and then... it was gone. Her emerald eyes surveyed the deep room the trap hole had been placed, and despite her throbbing skull and sore back Clara pushed herself up onto her feet. She was greeted with the sounds of the creature meeting a gruesome bloody fate, the spikes having no mercy. The young assassin swayed on her feet once she stood, her vision slightly blurry as she slowly made her way to where Mirza lay. She feel to her knees and peered over the edge, blinking at the darkness.

She could hear talking, which could only be Katie's. Clara stared into the darkness, face twisting into an expression of sorrow as she listened to Katie yell at the creature. Don't leave me again! Images of her father in the room in the back of the church came flooding back to the emerald eyed girl, and she scooted away from the ledge. She didn't want to think of her father. Not now. They needed to get Katie the hell out and rescue the missing people. Clara still had a dazed look on her face, and she lifted an arm to gingerly feel the back of her skull. A grimace twisted onto her face at the shock of pain that ran through her skull. That would hurt for a couple days. The sound of Katie screaming for Ranger; her horse was the next thing she heard, and turned her head in the direction from which they came. Did her mount have something that could help?

She could still see the burning flesh when her silver blade had made contact with the underworlder's skin. The young assassin was suddenly very proud about her decision to spend a bit more money on something nice, which clearly worked stupendously well. So it didn't quite turn out to be a myth after all. The concerns began to flood in after a minute. There had to be more than just one of these dog-like beasts. But how many? Were there more lairs with black magic and death reeking from every crevice? Clara didn't want to know, but she had a particularly strong feeling this wasn't over yet, and she inhaled deeply in order to calm her wandering thoughts. Just for now.
