Basil People Empty Basil People

Across the land there are famed merchants from the Basil Desert. They sell beautiful jewelery, carpets, lamps, silks, incense and weapons like nowhere in the world. Scimitars of gold and sappire and short bows that are simple to use and easy to aim. These merchants are few and only appear on roads and in small towns. They claim to hail from the Basil desert from a great golden city deep within the arid lands of sand and shifting dunes.

Many believe the great city of the Basil people to be myth, but it is very real. The city of Al'Rasheed can be found far to the south west, deep within the Basil desert. Its people are strong and have braved the hardships of the desert and flourished where no other people could. It is partly due to the hardiness of the Basil people and the fact that the city of Al'Rasheed is built upon a magical oasis that once belonged to a great blue dragon. The dragon was pushed out of the oasis long ago and the Basil people built their proud city. They now defend it and the surrounding desert fiercely.

The Basil people and its Sultans are famed for never losing grouond to any form of invading force, for no other army in the world can match the Basil in the desert. Many have tried, but found that the natural hardship of marching an army through the desert and trying to fight an enemy that is perfectly adapted to fighting in that environment is nigh impossible.

The Basil are famed for their cavalry, camel back warriors weilding specialized shortbows and polearms. The bow is called a Siyah and is a special composite bow meant to be weilded whilst riding. It is easy to draw and hold so that the rider can maintain control of their mount and still fire the bow acurately. The Polearm is a modified halberd, with a crescent blade meant to hook and maim both mounted and unmounted targets. This weapon is called the Omani. both weapons are weilded by the Sultan's special cavalry force called the Rami.

The Sultan also maintains control of a society of specialized killers who act as his personal guard and his loyal secret service. These individuals are called the Hassansins and they are cloaked in mystery. The skills of the Hassansins varies from person to person, some great sorcerers, some deadly assasins and some unmatched fighters. One thing is certain of the Hassansins: they all wear clothing of black and they all are incredibly dangerous.

Combat Prowess aside the Basil are also great craftsmen. They make lavish goods and have a large amount of gold and sapphires available to them. Basil goods are aslo often enchanted with great and mysterious magics which have been passed down from ancient djinns that taught the original sorcerers before the development of Al'rasheed.

Basil Merchants are world famous for the mystery they bring. Few other Basil people leave the desert, making their breed of hardy, dark skinned people rare beyond the desert.

To add on to this the Basil people worship the sun god they call Ormazd. Ormazd is depicted in many ways, but most commonly is depicted as great and powerful gold skinned djinn with wings of flame and and a circle of light behind him.

He is famed for being the deity that gave the original Basil sorcerers the power to defeat the great blue dragon that once dominated the oasis that Al'Rasheed is now built on.

To this day many people of Al'Rasheed worship Ormazd and celebrate his name with gifts to his temples. His priests are famous for their skill in healing and their abilities over wind and flame.

Though the majority of the people of Al'Rasheed praise Ormazd, many also worship Arimand, the god of the night. His followers work in the shadows and control dark magics. Their temples are found below the surface of Al'Rasheed in great chasms theat lead down to the original oasis that the city was built upon. Arimand has been known to appear in many forms, but is most famously a four armed, pitch black skinned figure with a steel mask who is shrouded in black..
